SULFATE-FREE SHAMPOO FROM CREME OF NATURE

It's amazing what one can find in a corner shop down the road when shopping for house hold items,For a couple of weeks now,i have been on the look out for a sulfate free shampoo,i didn't make it a priority because i already had a shampoo from ORS which i had no complaints about even though it isn't SLS  free.I stumbled on to this shampoo by Creme Of Nature and the first thing that caught my eyes was the Argan Oil in large print on the bottle and then i read further and got more excited when i saw ''SULFATE FREE '' labelled on it too,of course i had to skip something on my shopping list to pick the only bottle left since i was on a budget already.

This is my first time using a sulfate free shampoo, the difference is so clear with this shampoo and the ones with SLS. After the wash ,my hair didn't tangle as much as it used to,but what amazed me more was how soft the centre of my hair felt all day( that's usually the part of my hair that resists every sort of treatment ) like i had used my herbal essence hydrating conditioner which i reviewed  HERE afterwards which i didn't. I'm not sure if i should be saying thank you to the Argan Oil in this shampoo for that. The only  down side to this shampoo is that it's got Parabens, but after these great results, its worth giving this bottle a try,and sharing it with everyone.

INGREDIENTS:

Aqua (Water) , Trideceth-7 Carboxylic Acid , Decyl Glucoside , Glycol Stearate , Polyquaternium-10 , Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil , Sodium Hydroxide , Disodium EDTA , Quaternium 15 , Fragrance , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Methylchloroisothiazolinone , Methylisothiazolinone , CI 14700 (Red 4) , CI 19140 (Yellow 5)

Above, is a list of Ingredients in the Shampoo,it comes in a 354 ml bottle and the shampoo itself has a golden yellow colour to it , also i'm loving this shampoo for its price , and  all i needed to wash my hair from the roots was about half fluid ounce.,so i think it will definitely last for a long time.
With loads of Sulfate free shampoos out in the market ,i have to say that its still hard to find them in stores in certain areas. It will be nice to read up on the brands that are easily available and how it has affected your healthy hair Journey.

RED-DY , SET , GO - Classic Red LipStick.

Show me a lady who doesn't have a red lipstick in her make up bag , ...uuhhh that would be Me.As a sucker for anything pink ,i had every shade of pink in lip liners, lip glosses and lip stick and it never occurred to me to find myself a classic red lip stick.I always felt that wearing a red lip stick wasn't age appropriate for me, and this notion came as a result of watching my older ones including my mom apply the red lip stick like it was going out of fashion. So after being convinced by Francadaze - a make-up artist friend of mine,i decided to try one or two or three orrr.. ,i think what she forgot to mention was how many shades of red lip colours you may have to go through before settling for the right one that suits your skin tone...lol.
I ended up getting three shades of red in different brands - Avon,Barry M ,and M.A.C  but i'm going to review two for now because i haven't used  the M.A.C. lip stick yet which by the way had great reviews so i am saving it for last.

 BARRY M LITTLE VIXEN 163/317

This red lip stain works so well for me  i don't need to keep applying it every three or four hours,it has a pretty good lasting power, and feels so easy to apply with out smudging around the corners of your lip.The colour is a little on the dark side but it suits my skin tone.I havn't applied it using any lip liners, pencils or brush so it's definitely something i would use when i'm in a rush. The casing is small and portable it can fit into the smallest purse, and best of all it comes in pink..(baiting eyelids) .I hope i dont mistake it for one of my pink lip colours when leaving the house in a hurry.

 AVON BERRY BERRY NICE U421

In the past, I've had to use one make-up accessory or the other by Avon, but i've  never tried their lip stick before,so this

JERGENS NATURALS ULTRA HYDRATING DAILY MOISTURISER.

Still on my product overhaul (..and you can't believe how much I've had to throw away)which i started HERE, i'm also looking out for safe skin and hair care products that have no parabens and mineral oil and one which i didn't even know i had was the Jergens ultra hydrating daily moisturiser.
I got this moisturiser a few weeks ago as a back up to my Palmer's cocoa butter moisturising body oil in case it ever became scarce to buy.In my opinion i think its a good buy ,not a great buy if you are looking for extra long lasting moisture,it's also affordable. In the past i have tried some moisturisers from Jergens ,ones with Aloe Vera and the ones with Shea butter,i was impressed with the latter because it was non greasy but like i said it didn't last that long on my skin,So now i prefer to carry the hand cream version in my hand bag.

INGREDIENTS  :
WATER, GLYCERIN, GLYCERYL STEARATE, MYRISTYL MYRISTATE, GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) OIL, THEOBROMA CACAO (COCOA) SEED BUTTER, HYDROGENATED PALM KERNEL GLYCERIDES, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL, AGAVE TEQUILANA LEAF EXTRACT, OPUNTIA VULGARIS EXTRACT, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL, CARTHAMUS TINCTORIUS (SAFFLOWER) SEED OIL, LIMNANTHES ALBA (MEADOWFOAM) SEED OIL, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA BUTTER), OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) OIL UNSAPONIFIABLES, LECITHIN, JOJOBA ESTERS, OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) FRUIT OIL, AVENA SATIVA (OAT) KERNEL EXTRACT, CALENDULA OFFICINALIS FLOWER EXTRACT, PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL, *TOCOPHEROL, CETEARETH-20, PEG-100 STEARATE, ACRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, HYDROGENATED PALM GLYCERIDES, HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED OIL, FRAGRANCE, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, DMDM HYDANTOIN, PHENOXYETHANOL, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, CARAMEL. *VITAMIN E

OUT WITH THE OLD,IN WITH THE NEW - PRODUCTS THAT HAVE GOT TO GO (Mineral Oil,Parabens...)

I'm sure by now these words are familiar with our ladies and product junkies like me.So what exactly are Parabens and Mineral oil? Having read a lot about these chemical components and the effects they may have on one's health, i decided to do a product  overhaul at home, and its funny because almost everything i had either contained some sort of paraben or mineral oils in them, and quite a few had none.
Parabens -  These are chemical preservatives such as  Methylparaben,Ethylparaben,Propylparaben ,Isobutylparaben and Butylparaben that are found in most skin, hair and health care products.Studies have shown that Parabens are responsible for the development of cancerous tumours in the body.Research has also shown that parabens are present in breast cancer tumors, but there has been an argument on the role  it plays in the development of breast cancer. That being said, the men are not left behind as certain products for men also have these chemicals in them and can also lead to other types of cancer.

Mineral Oils - Mineral Oils also known as paraffin oil is simply a liquid by product of petroleum. They are also seen in the list of ingredients of skin, hair and health products such as moisturisers. A study has shown that mineral oil accumulates in the body over time and when applied on the skin it can also inhibit it from breathing and this can cause skin cancer.
Certain Mineral oil components can be found on food wrappings and can find their way to the external layers of cheese, meat and other dairy products, the quantity however is said to be negligeable.

A replacement for this in my dresser could be the ever trusted natural shea butter and natural coconut oil,it smells better and somewhat affordable too when i'm not making mine at home.So with all this in mind ,a product overhaul is due.

Let the product overhaul begin! Before sorting out the products i had to

MY FACIAL SKIN CARE REGIMEN

Hi everyone, seems like ages since i reviewed any acne and blemish product on here, although i have received so many questions on them outside the blog (guess most prefer to remain anonymous ) especially regarding the Neutrogena range of acne control which i reviewed HERE, nothing really has changed in my facial routine except the Neutrogena scrub which i replaced with equate Refreshing Apricot Scrub (pictures below). Now,having used a lot of scrubs i am going to review each one of them according to how they worked for me before i go on to the next stage of my Facial routine.

Brands of Scrubs.

  • NEUTROGENA Oil Free Acne Wash -  This scrub has a micro clear technology which makes it easy for the eye to see the pink grape fruits,as for the foam aspect of it i really can't say how that works on clearing acne. With this, i have to spend more time vigorously scrubbing as the tiny grape fruits particles are not enough to do the job for me..
Conclusion- does it work for me? Partially, but dries out my skin.Is it something i would reach for?No.

  • St.Ives Timeless Skin Apricot Scrub,Renew and Firm - I have to give it to St. Ives, the quality of their products including the scrub continues to improve over time. This particular scrub has 100% natural extracts and is formulated without parabens. With an age defying technology,it tones and firms while exfoliating. This is something i would use intermittently with either the St.Ives  invigorating Apricot scrub or The  St.Ives Naturally Clear Apricot scrub.

          1. St.Ives Renew & Firm
          2. Neutrogena Oil free Acne Wash
          3. St.Ives Naturally Clear
  • St.Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub,Blemish & Black head Control - Now this is the real deal,i have been using this scrub for close to 3 years now,and like i said, the manufacturers have remained consistent and better over the years. It also has the same salicylic acid as Neutrogena scrub and even though it is oil free it doesn't leave my face dry.I get a clear smooth feel after scrubbing. I recently ran out of this scrub, and desperate to scrub my face with it one morning, i had to rip it open from the side (pictures above)to scoop out the left overs...lol . I really hope that St.Ives has not discontinued this product because i can't seem to find it in stores anymore, which is why i picked up something close to it,(actually the sales lady was trying to sell me the stuff). -  the equate Apricot Scrub.
Conclusion - This definitely exfoliates my skin very well and cleans my pores with out leaving it dry,Will i be using it again? OH YES!

  • Equate Refreshing Apricot Scrub -  I have only used this for a couple of weeks (three times a week)and i must say that i'm impressed with the results so far. Its got as much apricot particles in it as the St.Ives Naturally Clear Apricot scrub, though the smell is not that great i'm still going to continue using it.

The  next stage of my routine is as follows.

  1. Scrub - I do this two or three times a week with any of the scrubs above.
  2. Neutrogena  Healthy Skin Cleanser  - I use this mostly at night before bed to remove any make-up, followed by the Toner.
  3. Neutrogena Acne Stress Control Toner - I use this sparingly with a cotton wool.
  4. Neutrogena Healthy Skin ,Clear Skin Cream - I use this every day mostly in the mornings followed by a Sun block.
  5. Neutrogena Dry touch Sun Block - I use anything from SPF 40 and above.

Really sorry for the lengthy reviews ,please feel free to ask me any thing regarding any of the products i have used here or my regimen through my email, twitter or you can post your questions right here on the blog under the ''comments'' section.

CLASSIC BEAUTY PRODUCTS.

Happy New Month everyone..lol, and welcome to the month of Leo's.I just realised yesterday that it's only 4 months to Christmas ...(can  you believe that.., 4 months ),and not so much has changed in my skin routine,(quite a lot has changed in my hair ,diet and of course my spiritual and intellectual journeys this year ) but not much for my skin. I think i can say it's because I've tried so hard to stick with products that have been tried and tested ,and i mean skin products that have really remained true to my skin over the years.
Call me Old fashion, but i have to say that having used so many skin products for either blemish control, acne control, moisturising e.t.c.,over the years,I still can't do with out my good old Vaseline Petroleum Jelly.I tell you ,this has been the go-to skin care staple in my family ever since i was born.
Celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, and Halle Berry have sworn by this product which has been for generations and i mean  generations dating back as 1890. Although the packaging for Vaseline Petroleum Jelly has over time been modified, the content is still the same - the smell,  texture, and colour. The makers of this product have also come out with a line of other skin care range , like the Cocoa Butter Range,Vaseline Lotion , and also the Men's Range.
Even though i still have other moisturisers( like the Palmer's Range i reviewed HERE) that are part of my skin care regimen , i never forget to use the Vaseline Petroleum Jelly which also comes in handy pocket sizes for people on the go.The Vaseline Lip Therapy below, now has aloe vera, and it does the job quite well for Dry Chapped lips.
The Vaseline Blue Seal can be used as a moisturiser for elbows and knees, i use them at night under my eyes as well as my feet at night and then with the socks on before i sleep ,this helps to soften my feet and ankles.

Apart from being very effective the Blue Seal is very affordable. Other benefits of the Vaseline Petroleum Jelly -

.  For cuts and  bruises.
.  For exfoliation - Mix some Vaseline petroleum Jelly with sea salt or brown sugar, rub gently on the lips for    a smooth exfoliation.
. For Dry Nose .
. To soften Cuticles.

Do you have a classic beauty product you still hang on to?
